Roger and hung out pool side at Gary Don's place. All of went over to Fingret's after to BBQ with him, Poster and Katzin. David made shark steaks.

I went to Ontario Place and C.N.E. with Buntman and Sesel. Played tennis with Gabe at J.C.C. under the lights.

Wednesday August 16, 1989

My 15th birthday! I woke up hungover. Jordi and Evan took me for lunch @ McDonald's. Birthday dinner with my family, including granny, at home.

Tuesday August 15, 1989

I went shopping a Concord Foods with mom. I went over to Guy's house. Jordi, Buntman and I went to Lime Rickey's. I crashed at Buntman's place and we snuck into his dad's liquer drawer. We ended up finishing off a bottle of Malibu Rum and I puked my guts out.

[Note - from that day forth I never again drank white rum and still feel nausea when I smell coconut]

Jordi and I went over to Buntman's house. Hung around Green Lane. Watched TV.

Granny came back from Senior's Camp. I went over to her place for dinner and then watched TV.

Guy and I went over to Jeff's place. We all went over to the Promenade and then to Lime Rickey's.

Friday August 11, 1989

I went shopping with mom. Guy, Jordi, Buntman and I went to see Parenthood at the Promenade.

Thursday August 10, 1989

Guy and I went and did last minute shopping. I bought a California Angels baseball jersey. We all flew back to Toronto. Awesome trip! Dada is the best.

Wednesday August 9, 1989

Dada, Erin, Guy and I walked around Rodeo Drive and went for a nice lunch. Guy and I walked around Melrose and Hollywood at night.

Tuesday August 8, 1989

Guy and I spent the whole day tanning and swimming on Venice Beach. That night we had dinner at home and just watched MTV videos.

Monday August 7, 1989

Dada dropped us off in Westwood. We hung out at an arcade and just walked around the area. We went back to Hollywood and went to see a movie at Mann's Chinese Theatre. Guy and I sat around watching the card hustlers again.

We went back to Venice Beach. Watched the people working out at Muscle Gym. We walked along the strip and swam.

Saturday August 5, 1989

Guy and I went to Universal Studios and did the famous Studio Tour. We saw the Bates Motel and watched a flood happen (like the movie The River. Had a nice dinner at home and watched MTV.

Friday August 4, 1989

Guy and I got dropped off at the Paramount lot early in the morning and we waited in line all day to get on the Arsenio Hall Show. We finally made it on (filmed at like 5pm) and saw Robert Englund (Freddy Krueger) and Whoopi Goldberg.

[Note - We sat in the dog pound and actually made it on TV, whoopin' it up hard.]

Thursday August 3, 1989

Guy and I spent the day in Westwood. We saw Monika Schnarre, the Canadian model. We also went to Hollywood to look at the Walk of Fame and ended up staying there until late. Lost money.

[Note - at the time Monika was the youngest model (15) to appear on a Vogue cover]

[Note - Guy and I lost a bit of money to some card hustlers but then spent the rest of the night watching them do their thing until we fully understood the entire hustle. There was a whole team of people working on the scam. Then Guy and I practiced furiously to be able to do the trick ourselves. Ultimately it was a find the red card and the person would always think they knew which it was but they would always pick a black card. Always.]

Wednesday August 2, 1989

Guy and I spent the day hanging around Venice Beach. I got a wicked Venice Beach tank top and we saw Kid from Kid' n Play.

Tuesday August 1, 1989

We went for lunch at Hungry Jack's - Guy's uncle Raffi's burger joint. Apparently Kristy McNichol is a regular there! Then we walked around Rodeo Drive and Beverly Hills.

Monday July 31, 1989

Guy's aunt, whom we called "doda", took us to Disney Land. We stood in line to ride Space Mountain for like 2 hours. Guy gave Erin some serious beatings.

[Note - "doda" simply means aunt in Hebrew]

[Note - Guy and I would crash in the TV room and Erin was in a bedroom but heard one of us fart so she said "who farted?" and I started laughing my ass off. So then Erin kept saying it and we kept laughing until Doda came out and told us to keep quiet. Then we had crazy giggles and Erin, just as we were falling asleep and it was quiet, would say it again. Finally Guy went in to her room and pummeled her. I always felt bad because I kind of egged her on. Oh well. We still to this day laugh our asses off anytime someone says "whooooo farted?" I guess you had to be there.]

We went shopping at the Beverly Center. Granny went to some "seniors camp" up in Muskoka.

Guy, Erin & I flew to Los Angeles to stay with his Aunt.

[His Aunt lived off Melrose, not that far from the Beverly Center and near the famous Improv.]

Friday July 28, 1989

Jordi and I went to Brett's new house on Roselawn ... across from Roselawn Cemetery! Gabe had Rachel over for dinner and then they headed up to M Bernstein's cottage.

[Note: Rachel was a cute British chick that Gabe met at his telemarketing job with Morris Field.]

Thursday July 27, 1989

Packed most of the day. Watched TV. Back to Lime Rickey's with Guy, Buntman, Jordi and Brett Massey.

Wednesday July 26, 1989

Guy and I went for a long bike ride during the day. I went back to Lime Rickey's with Gary Don, Guy and Katzin.

Tuesday July 25, 1989

Guy and I went to the pool hall/arcade and then went to Lime Rickey's with him and Gary Don. We ran into a bunch of people we know there: Sarah Z, Shana Daniels, Andrew Fortis, Sean Goldfarb, Jill Brown, Alyssa Newman, Tiffany Mittelman, Leah, Tara, Maxine Castle, etc.

[Note: I can't say 100% which people we saw at Lime Rickey's. I only wrote down first names, but this is my best guess based on the names and who I could imagine together. Apologies if I missed you or you weren't actually there.]

I went to the Promenade with Guy and Brett Massey. Then Guy came over here for dinner. We watched TV and hung around my neighborhood.

I went to Yorkdale Mall and purchased new shoes. Played ping-pong and then tennis with Gabe. Watched TV.

Guy and I went to Sporting Life and Bloor Cycle. Gary and I went to see UHF at the Madison and then grabbed Dairy Queen after.

Thursday July 20, 1989

Gary Don and I went over to Katzin's place. We spent the whole day playing Blades Of Steel. Mom came back from New York.

Granny came over during the day. She made dinner and prepared a few things for mom's arrival. Watched TV.

Tuesday July 18, 1989

The Angels beat the Jays. Dad and I went to see When Harry Met Sally at The Promenade. Great movie!

Monday July 17, 1989

I watched the Jays win both games in their double-header against the California Angels. I started reading Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Gabe and I went over to granny's place for dinner.

[Note: The California Angels have always been my team.]

Sunday July 16, 1989

I helped mom clean the house. Dad and I went to go to see License To Kill at Yorkdale. Gabe came home from a weekend at Mark Bernstein's cottage.

[Note: My dad and I both hated Timothy Dalton as Bond. They completely took Bond away from his roots and turned him into some emotional whimp. That actually lasted with Pierce Brosnan but finally came to a close with Daniel Craig.]

Saturday July 15, 1989

Guy, Katzin and I went to Canada Wonderland. I went with $10 and came home with $10. Managed to scam all my meals! We also picked up a bunch of girls.

[Note: I recall that the trick with food was to linger around busy counters and when they asked what you were waiting for just claiming 'my burger' or whatever it was you wanted to get to eat. In terms of picking up girls, I think it's safe to say that by 'picking up' I just meant we talked to some. Perhaps even went on some rides together. But there was no 'action'.]

Friday July 14, 1989

Hung out at home. Played tennis at Rockford with dad when he got home from work. Guy came over for dinner and then we hung out around this neighborhood. Guy then slept over.

Thursday July 13, 1989

Dad took me to work with him. That night Gabe and I played squash at the JCC.

Wednesday July 12, 1989

I went over to Guy's house. We went to Pizza Chef for lunch and then spent the rest of the day at Farview Mall.

Tuesday July 11, 1989

Mom left for New York. I went to Switzer's Deli for lunch with granny. Katzin, Gary Don and I went to the Promenade to see Weekend at Bernie's.

Monday July 10, 1989

Spent the day with mom. We went shopping, cleaned the house and read in the backyard.

Sunday July 9, 1989

I went to visit granny with mom. Played ping-pong with Gabe. Spent the rest of the afternoon picking cherries.

[Note: the house on Shenstone was my favourite, mostly because it had an amazing cherry tree.]

Saturday July 8, 1989

Crashed at Gary Don's the night before. We watched Boris Becker defeat Stefan Edberg to capture another Wimbledon title (his 3rd). We spent the rest of the day swimming. Rented Bloodsport with Guy, Katzin, Rog, Hilary Miller, Jen Burdoch and Cara Lurie.

Friday July 7, 1989

I went swimming at Gary Don's dad's house. That night Gary and I went to see New Order, The Sugarcubes, and PIL (Public Image Ltd.) at the CNE.

[Note: This was my first rock concert ever. Yeah, I know ... 15 is kind of late for a concert, blame it on my folks. New Order went on to become one of my favourite bands of all time. PIL was actually a Sex Pistols offshoot lead by Johnny Rotten (aka. Lydon)]

Thursday July 6, 1989

Gabe and I went to the JCC. We played tennis and then went for a swim. Leah and Izzy came over to our place for dinner. I rented and watched Predator and Masquerade.

I watched some Wimbeldon. I went to Town & Country, The Promenade and National Gym with mom and granny.

Tuesday July 4, 1989

American Independence Day. I went to look for a job. I went to Lime Rickey's with Katzin, Gary Don and Matt.

Canada Day - 122nd birthday! Gabe and I played tennis during the day. My whole family, and some of my parents friends, all went down to Harbourfront.

I went swimming at Fingret's place. Poster came over and then all of us went to Bayview Village to see Batman.

Thursday June 29, 1989

I was supposed to leave for California but the trip was cancelled. Sat at home during the day and then went to Video Invasion with Guy in the evening.

Wednesday June 28, 1989

Brian and I went to The Valley to play tennis. We ran into Ms. Genrich and she drove me all the way home. That night I hung out with Guy around Pining Rd.

[Note: I was appreciative of the ride and thought it was a super nice gesture; however, many people told me after that she was a notorious gossip and very nosy. Apparently she drove me home to get a sense of how I live - size of house, etc.]

Brad and I played tennis. Guy and I went to a party on Gretman Crescent and then I crashed at his place.

Guy, Brad and I went over to Jordi's house to swim. We all went to Pizza Chef for lunch. Guy and I hung out with Zohar and Urman.

Ran errands with mom. Fingret, Katzin, Roger and I went to Lime Rickey's.

Saturday June 24, 1989

Guy and I rode our bikes to Brett Massey's new place at Bathurst and Eglington. He was on Roselawn, right across from a cemetery. Then we all went to Eglington Park public swimming pool. Watched TV that night.

Jordi and I grabbed a slice at Pizza Chef and then went over to Thornlea. I hung out and caught up with other friends while Jordi wrote an exam. We hooked up with Guy and just hung out in Thornhill in the evening.

Father's Day. We went to Nino D'Aversa for lunch. Played tennis at the JCC with Gabe (he won 6-1, 6-1).

Mom and I ran errands and went over to granny's place. I went to see Ghostbusters 2 at Promenade with Brad, Buntman, Jordi and Sesel.

I went over to granny's for breakfast. Guy, Brett Massey and I went downtown. Guy and I went to Lime Rickey's for dinner.

Crescent School Prize Day. Jason Melbourne was announced as the new Head Boy.

Gary and I went for lunch at Mr. Submarine. We went to German Mills to visit old teachers. Met up with Brian and hung out at his place.

The first day of Summer 1989! Spent the day running errands with mom. Watched TV.

Monday June 12, 1989

I wrote my last final exam of the year - Geography! Celebrated the end of the year with Fred, Sandro, Sorbara, D Scott, Trevor, Sandy G and Wakefield. I went to the JCC to play squash after dinner.

Sunday June 11, 1989

I studied for the Geography exam. Gabe and I went to National Gym for a massive sale they were having. I bought a football and a squash raquet. Watched a little TV - Michael Chang defeated Stefan Edberg to win the French Open at 17 (youngest ever).

Saturday June 10, 1989

Guy, Jordi and I went downtown. We walked down Yonge St. from Bloor to The Eaton's Centre. Gabe and I snuck into Mayfair and played until we were tied 4-4 ... then we got caught and kicked out.

Friday June 9, 1989

I wrote my Computer Science final exam. I went grocery shopping with mom after. Met up for a late lunch with Fingret and George S at Pickle Barrel in The Promenade.

Thursday June 8, 1989

I wrote my Math exam. I studied for Computer Science. Mom and I went to run some errands at The Promenade. I watched some of the French Open.

I wrote both my English and French final exams. Miha and I went to D Scott's for lunch in between exams. Studied for my Science exam. The Blue Jays played their first game in the Skydome - Gabe went to the game. I watched Michael Chang defeat Ivan Lendl in the Round of 16 at The French Open. Amazing match!

[Note - they lost to the Milwaukee Brewers 5-3 before a crowd of 48,378.]

Sunday June 4, 1989

What would have been my grandfather's 78th birthday. I studied for exams all day. Parents had an open house. Things in China are really bad - protesters in Tiananmen Square were shot by their own army.

Saturday June 3, 1989

I went over to Guy's place. We grabbed dinner from Kentucky Fried Chicken. We then rented Hot Dog ... The Movie and went over to my house to watch it. The SkyDome was opened in Toronto.

Friday June 2, 1989

The last day of grade 9! I went for a BBQ dinner with Gabe and his friend M Bernstein. I went to Town & Country with Jordi to see Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade and then grabbed Dairy Queen.

Thursday June 1, 1989

My mom's friend Betty's husband passed away. Last day of Day 1 at school. We watched a movie on Pierre Trudeau. Gabe had his formal. Studied for exams.

Wednesday May 31, 1989

Played basketball in gym. Watched TV. Studied. Katzin won the NHL playoff pool.

[Note: there was no internet so we had to wait until the Tuesday newspaper which provided all teams and player points to double check that we had our scoring right.]

Tuesday May 30, 1989

I got 80% on my English test. Egg salad for lunch. Guy and I went to the Promenade after school to look for retail jobs. Studied.

Monday May 29, 1989

Fish and chips for lunch. Studied every available moment. My regiment was: 1 chapter of Science every day. French every morning on the bus. 20 minutes of math every night. English and History when time remained.

Studied for exams. Watched TV. Mom had a bunch of friends over for a birthday BBQ.

Saturday May 27, 1989

I went to Mayfair Chesswod to watch the CISAA tennis finals tournament (Davis Cup style). Crescent did well, but we lost in the semis. Went out with Guy and Jordi.

Friday May 26, 1989

Mom's 47th birthday. Award ceremony for Hudson and announced the prefects for next year. Had granny over for dinner at our house. Watched TV.

Thursday May 25, 1989

Sports Day. I came last in my 800M heat. I came 7th in the triple jump. Wolfe House came in 3rd. Hudson house won Sports Day and the overall house title. D Scott and Rich were Hudson. Calgary beat Montreal 4-2 to capture the Stanley Cup.

Wednesday May 24, 1989

CISAA tournaments. Crescent did well overall - especially in rugby. The U15 tennis team (that I was the assistant coach for) beat Holy Trinity. Went grocery shopping with mom after school. Studied.

Tuesday May 23, 1989

I got 85% on the radio play. We had the final assembly of the year. Studied for exams.

Monday May 22, 1989

Victoria Day. No school. I studied for my exams in the morning and then went to Canada's Wonderland with Guy. We didn't get home until 1am!

Sunday May 21, 1989

We had another Willowbrook versus German Mills ball hockey challenge. German Mills won 5-4. Calgary beat Montreal 4-3.

Saturday May 20, 1989

I helped mom with a garage sale at our house. I went to see K-9 at The Madison with Guy, Jordi and Buntman. We also ran into Fingret and Gary D there.

Friday May 19, 1989

Math test. I went to a party at Jenifer Burdock's house. Slept over at Buntman's after.

Thursday May 18, 1989

Final exams schedule came out. Gabe and I went back to the JCC for a rematch (he won again). Watched TV.

Wednesday May 17, 1989

French test. Trained for 800M in gym class. Did homework. Watched game 2 of the Stanley Cup Finals - Montreal 4 Calgary 2.

Tuesday May 16, 1989

We practiced the long jump in gym class. We watched the rest of Great Expectations in English class. Gabe and I went to the JCC after dinner to play tennis - he won 6-4.

Monday May 15, 1989

Geography test. We started studying cells in Science class. Chicken nuggets for lunch. I watched Ferris Bueller's Day Off.

Sunday May 14, 1989

Mother's Day. My grandfather's Matzevah (Unveiling of the tombstone). The last episode ever of Family Ties - I bawled at the end when all of the cast came out on stage. Stanley Cup Finals began: Calgary 3 defeated Montreal 2 in game 1.

Saturday May 13, 1989

Jordi, Guy and I went to Canada's Wonderland for Opening Day. We hit the new ride - Timberwolf Falls was the new ride. There was a huge laser dance in the evening.

Friday May 12, 1989

Gabe and dad returned from their Florida trip. I wrote a Math test. We watched the movie Great Expectations in English class (we had read the book for class already). I hooked up with Singer and Bram after school and we went to some girl's house on Post Road. Then we went to Lime Rickey's and met up with Debra G and Lisa S.

[Note: I remember the house on Post Road had a full-on movie screen in the basement and I had never seen anything like it before. It was probably the nicest home I had ever been in at that time.]

Thursday May 11, 1989

We used microscopes in Science class with Stu Cumner (yup, just a few jokes about that last name in an all boys school). Wrote a paper on Lester B. Pearson. Montreal eliminated the Philadelphia Flyers, but the game was famous for Ron Hextall's attack on Chris Chelios.


[Note: Hextall would later receive a 12 game suspension.]
