Friday February 26, 1988

I had my enriched math class. Had lunch at school and then we played an intense game of foot hockey. After school played road hockey with Gary, Brian, Evan, Tesis, Adrian and Cliff.

Had dinner at Cara Lurie's house. She was a new girl from South Africa and I can't recall why I had dinner there but I think it might have been just a polite gesture by her parents to have her invite some of her new friends over. Those South Africans sure are proper.

Thursday February 25, 1988

Wrote a math test. Coached the 4/5 cosom hockey game. Milberg and I got into a fight in gym class. I just remember whipping a basketball at him. Gary, Cliff and Milberg did their speeches. Took the bus home with Gary and Marc (his bro).

Wednesday February 24, 1988

I took the bus to school with Gary (don't recall how or why since Gary lived in Thornhill?). I got 82% on my science test. Brett, Gary & I had lunch at McDonald's. Read my "preci" in class. Worked on geography and my process writing. Canada lost 5-0to Russia. I was OK with this.

Tuesday February 23, 1988

I got 96% on my French project. Tres bon! Russia won the gold and silver in ice dancing. Grinkov and Gordeeva would later go on to marry and have a daughter, but then Grinkov died at age 28 from a massive heart attack. Started coaching a grade 4/5 hockey team. Hart and Yves got into a small fight. Did geography homework. Played ping-pong.

Monday February 22, 1988

Our geography assignment was due. French "preci" due (no idea what "preci" means). I was the ref for the grade 4 & 5 "cosom" hockey. Took the bus home with Gary. I watched Canada tie Sweden 2-2.

Sunday February 21, 1988

Watched the Olympics most of the day. Russia beat Czechoslovakia 6-1 in ice hockey. Did some French and Geography homework. I watched Married With Children and Family Ties with the family.

Saturday February 20, 1988

I played road hockey with Gary, Ryan, Poster, Evan, Tesis and Ulrich. I watched Quebec versus Montreal on TV. For me this was the apex of hockey. That night Brian Boitano won the gold medal over local hero Brian Orser (who got the Silver).

Friday February 19, 1988

PA Day. I love PA Days. I went to Town & Country with Ryan to get Poster a present. We ended up getting him a Michael Jordan poster; Bulls pennant; a Nerf basketball; and a single (aka a 45) (don't recall what song). Jon's birthday party: Al, Gasee, Evan, Ryan, Ulrich, and Singer all there. We ended up watching Platoon.

Thursday February 18, 1988

Math test ... didn't do great. I got 9/20 on my music test. Miles Davis clealy I was not. Played road hockey after school at Ryan's with him, his brother Andy and Andy's friend. Andy went on to play for the Guelph Storm before having his career ruined by Jesse Boulerice. Did geography homework. Watched Olympics.

Wednesday February 17, 1988

Had a great Family Studies class. Played foot hockey at lunch. Watched USA v. CCCP.

Tuesday January 16, 1988

French project was due. Mr. Ford taught our class (I seem to recall something happening to Mr. Lewinsky and he was gone). Played foot hockey at lunch. Played and coached our floor hockey team - Ron, Evan, & Tesis. Watched Olympic pairs figure skating. Yekaterina Gordeeva and Sergey Grinkov were great. The Russians are in a league of their own when it comes to figure skating.

Monday January 15, 1988

Im presented my science project ... it went OK. I also had my speech today ... it went OK too. Music test. Played ball hockey with Brian, Evan & Adrian. I watched Czechoslovakia vs. US in Olympic hockey.

Sunday February 14, 1988

Valentine's Day and granny's 72nd birthday. We all went for a birthday brunch downtown somewhere. Did some French homework. Watched the Olympics.

Saturday February 13, 1988

Bri and I worked on some homework and then met up with Evan and Tesis for some ball hockey. The Winter Olympics in Calgary started. I watched Golden Girls too. Gabe took Andrea to the Leafs-Flyers game.

Friday February 12, 1988

Math Test. Red day and bake sale at school. Man, I love bake sales. I still managed to have lunch at McDonald's with Paul Tesis. After school I gave Marla and Debra snow jobs (it's a 'move' of mine ... like Frank Costanza's stopping short ... it worked with Berger in 84 and I never looked back). Oh yeah, I also managed to lose my boots that day too.

Thursday February 11, 1988

Speeches - Jill Brown, Patti and Carrie. Ate lunch at Ulrich's. "Hart and Ulrich in class" (no idea what that was in reference to). German Mills competed in the Kiwanis Music Festival and came in second place. Played ping-pong. Watched TV.

Wednesday February 10, 1988

We took a school trip to Thornlea. I remember now what arrogant shits Gary and I were being, knowing that we were already accepted into private schools. We were laughing at Thornlea having a "shop class" and were just being real brats. Played some basketball after school. Bought a globe for my room (in prep for geography class). Watched TV and played ping-pong with Gabe.

Tuesday February 9, 1988

Science Fair started - everyone was told theirs was due today but then we received the schedule for when we present. I got assigned the following Monday as my time slot. After school I played road hockey with Tesis, Evan, Cliff and Brian. That night was the 39th NHL All-Star Game at St. Louis Arena. Mario Lemieux broke the record for most points in an All-Star Game with his six-point explosion, but he also scored the game winner in overtime. Hat trick. MVP. Wales Conference won 6-5. Peter Stastny also scored a goal.

Monday February 8, 1988

I wrote the crazy science class exam that I prepared for ... went really well. Geography class started. Handed in my play for French class. Finished work on my science project. Played ping-pong ad watched TV.

Sunday February 7, 1988

I watched the NBA All-Star game. Michael Jordan was the MVP in a 138-133 East win (in Chicago). Played football with Gabe and the dog. Did Science homework. Watched Quebec vs. Chicago on TV.

Saturday January 6, 1988

Rented some shitty movies. Bought a bunch of new ping-pong gear. Watched TV and did homework.

Friday February 5, 1988

Ate lunch at school and then we played football - Milberg, Brian, Ulrich, Cliff, Perkins, etc. History Assembly ... no more history class. I got in trouble (no idea for what). I worked on my speech and then watched Hannah and Her Sisters (again).

Thursday February 4, 1988

Once again I didn't go to school ... not sure why I was missing so much school ... snow days? I worked on my science project. Watched TV. Played soccer in the snow with Gabe and Pepper. Shoveled the driveway.

Wednesday February 3, 1988

French books due. I had lunch at Singer's place. In gym class a bunch of us were teasing Jakub, with me being the ringleader. When I entered the changeroom after class he jumped me (of course my friends were more interested in seeing a good fight than letting me know I was about to get whooped). I could hold my own but this Jakub was a really tough kid. His knee was all hacked up from an accident with a chainsaw. His first day at school (after arriving from Czechoslovakia) we lost a tennis ball on the roof during red ass and the next thing we knew Jakub was on the school roof showering us with tennis balls lost over the years. Anyway, I managed to rope a dope until our teacher Mr. Goldberg came in and when I was safely behind the teacher I yelled "At least I didn't rape Shelly!" (which was a childish rumor going around ... there was no actual rape as none of us had any idea how this sex thing worked yet). Anyway, one of my more cowardly moments. I went to Ryan's place after school to work on science.

Tuesday February 2, 1988

Ate at school and then we played football. Enriched math - took some national math test. Shoveled the driveway. I went over to Marc's to play on his Nintendo.

Monday February 1, 1988

Trade deadline in our hockey pool. I seem to recall a blockbuster deal with Gary where I got Savard and traded away Yzerman ... but no official record of it. I didn't go to school and missed the first Family Studies class. I watched TV and slept all day.
