Thursday June 29, 1989

I was supposed to leave for California but the trip was cancelled. Sat at home during the day and then went to Video Invasion with Guy in the evening.

Wednesday June 28, 1989


Brian and I went to The Valley to play tennis. We ran into Ms. Genrich and she drove me all the way home. That night I hung out with Guy around Pining Rd.

[Note: I was appreciative of the ride and thought it was a super nice gesture; however, many people told me after that she was a notorious gossip and very nosy. Apparently she drove me home to get a sense of how I live - size of house, etc.]

[Note: The Valley is now called Adventure Valley]

Tuesday June 27, 1989

Brad and I played tennis. Guy and I went to a party on Gretman Crescent and then I crashed at his place.

Monday June 26, 1989

Guy, Brad and I went over to Jordi's house to swim. We all went to Pizza Chef for lunch. Guy and I hung out with Zohar and Urman.

Sunday June 25, 1989

Ran errands with mom. Fingret, Katzin, Roger and I went to Lime Rickey's.

Saturday June 24, 1989

Guy and I rode our bikes to Brett Massey's new place at Bathurst and Eglington. He was on Roselawn, right across from a cemetery. Then we all went to Eglington Park public swimming pool. Watched TV that night.

Friday June 23, 1989

Jordi and I grabbed a slice at Pizza Chef and then went over to Thornlea. I hung out and caught up with other friends while Jordi wrote an exam. We hooked up with Guy and just hung out in Thornhill in the evening.

Brad and I went to Jordi's place. We then met up with Guy and Shane at Pizza Chef. Played a bunch of Super Sprint. Slept over at Jordi's place.

Gary and I went to Yorkdale and saw Dead Poets Society. Awesome movie!

Tuesday June 20, 1989

I went shopping with mom, and then baked some cookies. Rented Colors.

Monday June 19, 1989


I rode my bike to Promenade and handed out my resume. I went to Penguin Books with Guy, where he was working, to apply for a job. I also got a bunch of books for free.

Sunday June 18, 1989


Father's Day. We went to Nino D'Aversa for lunch. Played tennis at the JCC with Gabe (he won 6-1, 6-1).

Saturday June 17, 1989

Mom and I ran errands and went over to granny's place. I went to see Ghostbusters 2 at Promenade with Brad, Buntman, Jordi and Sesel.

Friday June 16, 1989

I went over to granny's for breakfast. Guy, Brett Massey and I went downtown. Guy and I went to Lime Rickey's for dinner.

Crescent School Prize Day. Jason Melbourne was announced as the new Head Boy.

Gary and I went for lunch at Mr. Submarine. We went to German Mills to visit old teachers. Met up with Brian and hung out at his place.

The first day of Summer 1989! Spent the day running errands with mom. Watched TV.

Monday June 12, 1989


I wrote my last final exam of the year - Geography! Celebrated the end of the year with Fred, Sandro, Sorbara, D Scott, Trevor, Sandy G and Wakefield. I went to the JCC to play squash after dinner.

Sunday June 11, 1989

I studied for the Geography exam. Gabe and I went to National Gym for a massive sale they were having. I bought a football and a squash raquet. Watched a little TV - Michael Chang defeated Stefan Edberg to win the French Open at 17 (youngest ever).

Saturday June 10, 1989



Guy, Jordi and I went downtown. We walked down Yonge St. from Bloor to The Eaton's Centre. Gabe and I snuck into Mayfair and played until we were tied 4-4 ... then we got caught and kicked out.

Friday June 9, 1989


I wrote my Computer Science final exam. I went grocery shopping with mom after. Met up for a late lunch with Fingret and George S at Pickle Barrel in The Promenade.

Thursday June 8, 1989


I wrote my Math exam. I studied for Computer Science. Mom and I went to run some errands at The Promenade. I watched some of the French Open.

I wrote my History final exam. I studied for the Math exam. I watched some French Open tennis and then the 1988-1989 NHL Awards.

I wrote my Science exam. Fred and I took the bus home together after. Studied for my History exam. Watched a little TV.

Monday June 5, 1989


I wrote both my English and French final exams. Miha and I went to D Scott's for lunch in between exams. Studied for my Science exam. The Blue Jays played their first game in the Skydome - Gabe went to the game. I watched Michael Chang defeat Ivan Lendl in the Round of 16 at The French Open. Amazing match!

[Note - they lost to the Milwaukee Brewers 5-3 before a crowd of 48,378.]

Sunday June 4, 1989

What would have been my grandfather's 78th birthday. I studied for exams all day. Parents had an open house. Things in China are really bad - protesters in Tiananmen Square were shot by their own army.

Saturday June 3, 1989


I went over to Guy's place. We grabbed dinner from Kentucky Fried Chicken. We then rented Hot Dog ... The Movie and went over to my house to watch it. The SkyDome was opened in Toronto.

Friday June 2, 1989

The last day of grade 9! I went for a BBQ dinner with Gabe and his friend M Bernstein. I went to Town & Country with Jordi to see Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade and then grabbed Dairy Queen.

Thursday June 1, 1989


My mom's friend Betty's husband passed away. Last day of Day 1 at school. We watched a movie on Pierre Trudeau. Gabe had his formal. Studied for exams.

Wednesday May 31, 1989

Played basketball in gym. Watched TV. Studied. Katzin won the NHL playoff pool.

[Note: there was no internet so we had to wait until the Tuesday newspaper which provided all teams and player points to double check that we had our scoring right.]

Tuesday May 30, 1989


I got 80% on my English test. Egg salad for lunch. Guy and I went to the Promenade after school to look for retail jobs. Studied.

Monday May 29, 1989

Fish and chips for lunch. Studied every available moment. My regiment was: 1 chapter of Science every day. French every morning on the bus. 20 minutes of math every night. English and History when time remained.
