Monday January 30, 1989


I wrote tests in both geography and history. The debating club had a meeting after school. Gabe wrote his final exam of high school. As long as he passes, he is officially done!

Did geography homework all day. Watched TV.

Saturday January 28, 1989


Ryan Long and I went down to Maple Leaf Gardens and got ourselves into the New York Rangers practice. Ryan was a huge James Patrick fan and that is who got us in. We met all the Rangers and got our cards autographed. We then went over to Cliff's house and played some road hockey. Then we all watched the game.

Friday January 27, 1989


Grub day. Fish'n'chips for lunch. I got 62% on my Computer Science test. Watched leafs vs. Red Wings on TSN.


Note: I'm pretty much on Microsoft's payroll now, so take that Mr. Overholt!

Thursday January 26, 1989


I stayed home from school because I wasn't feeling well. I spent the day watching TV and then started reading Catcher In The Rye for English class.

Note: Cliche, yes ... but it remains one of my favourite books of all time. I remember feeling like a changed person after reading that book. It exposed me to things I was totally oblivious about. However, there was also lots that I didn't comprehend that I discovered not long ago when I reread the book.

Wednesday January 25, 1989


We had a pop quiz in health class. I went over to Min's house after school to work on our project. I watched the Bruins vs. Leafs game.

Note: Robert Cimetta played for the Bruins and I was a big fan because he was a former Crescent student. He later went on to play for the Leafs.

Tuesday January 24, 1989


Good old meat pie for lunch. We played ball hockey after school. We had to stop at 10-10. I had 1 goal and 3 assists.

Monday January 23, 1989


I wrote a computer program for the first time ever in Computer Science class. I joined the debating club. We played "Geopardy" in Geography class. We watched the rest of the movie in History class. Watched Montreal vs. Clagary game.

Sunday January 22, 1989

Went to Rockford tennis courts and played road hockey with a bunch of Newtonbrook guys. Superbowl XXIII - San Francisco 49ers beat the Cincinatti Bengals 20-16. Jerry Rice won the MVP.

Note: many of the guys from Newtonbrook would actually become my friends years later when I started dating Melissa

I spent the day at Fingret's house. I watched the Leafs vs. Habs game.

Friday January 20, 1989

I got 88% on my math test. We had spaghetti for lunch. Took Canada soccer test in gym class. Gabe copied me and moved in with granny for a bit. I slept over at Fingret's house. Poster came over there.

History test and a science lab. We had grilled cheese and fries for lunch. Granny came over to our plae for dinner.

Wrote test in Computer Science. We watched a movie in history class. There was a school assembly where a special Veterans Band came and played our school song.

Tuesday January 17, 1989

We had another test in math class. Veal - one of my favourites - for lunch. Played ball hockey in Highland Hall after school (3g, 2a). Studies for Computer Science.

Monday January 16, 1989


We had Chinese food for lunch. I got 10/10 on a history quiz, but 4/10 on a science quiz. Watched Leafs vs. Whalers.

Took Pepper for a walk and then took shots against the garage. Studied. Finishing reading Animal Farm - great book!

Saturday January 14, 1989


I went to Maple Leaf Gardens and snuck into the Montreal Canadiens practice with Brian. We grabbed dinner at McDonald's and then went to Bri's to watch the hockey game.

Friday January 13, 1989


Friday the 13th! Started reading George Orwell's Animal Farm. Watched TV. Gabe rented ice with a bunch of guys from York Mills. I went with him and was the referee.

Thursday January 12, 1989


History Quiz. Played basketball at lunch with a few guys. Hung out with D Scott after school.

Wednesday January 11, 1989


I got 15/15 on my English Test. Madame Pella gave us a pop French quiz. I watched our first team play Ridley College in basketball and squash. Did homework for History class - explaining the conflict in the Balkans.

Tuesday January 10, 1989


English Test. I got 85% on my math test. Lifted weights and played squash in gym class. Played intramural hockey.

Monday September 9, 1989


We had a big school assembly. Headmaster Tansey gave a great speech. I took Pepper for a long walk down Bathurst St.

Bummed around the house all day in my pyjamas. Did homework. Watched 60 Minutes and Married With Children.

I went to the library with Min. That night watched Leafs vs. Sabres.

Friday January 6, 1989


We were given chocolate bars to sell for charity. I went to the library and spent some time doing research on the computer. Worked with some CD-ROMS.

Thursday January 5, 1988

Ugh! Meat pies for lunch. We got assigned a huge geography project. Played some road hockey with Pepper. Watched NBC "must see" TV.

Wedneday January 4, 1989


Played floor hockey in the morning before class. We had spaghetti for lunch and got let out early because there were some problems with the TTC.

Tuesday January 3, 1989


We had chicken nuggets for lunch. A bunch of us stayed after school and played cosom hockey in Highland Hall. Mr. Davies (teacher) played with us. I had a goal and 4 assists.

Note: Steven Davies was one of my favourite teachers at Crescent. Super cool guy (taught History, World Religions, etc.) that almost made the NHL as a goalie. I think he also taught at a goalie camp and knew a bunch of the guys in the NHL, including John Tanner (who never did anything but was on the Nordiques).

Monday January 2, 1989

Holiday (because New Year's Day fell on a Sunday). Finished reading Lord of the Flies. Watched TV. Took Pepper for a super long walk.

Sunday January 1, 1989


I slept in late and then spent the entire day watching TV and reading Lord of The Flies.

Note: Lord of the Flies was a school assignment, but remains one of my favourite books to this day.

Saturday December 31, 1988


Hockey pool trade deadline at noon. Jordi, Ryan, Andy and I went downtown. We met all of the Quebec Nordiques. Stayed downtown and we all went to the game that night.

I went to play shini at Double Rinks with Guy, Jordi, Buntman, and Sesel. Rented Overboard. Took Pepper to the vet.

[Note - this may have been the first time I met Buntman. He was a recent immigrant from South Africa and would go on to become a good friend for a little while. Who knew then that he would go on to become very religious Jew and move to Israel ... and in fact marry a relative of Guy's! Small world that works in amazing ways.]

Monday December 26, 1988



Boxing Day. Cliff and I went to National Gym, then went over to his house for dinner*. We watched the Leafs vs. Islanders.

* I wanted to be polite so kept quiet, but his mom served runny eggs. I hate runny eggs. Hurled in his bathroom.

Christmas. I took pepper for a long walk. Babysat David for the Zemilmans.

Fingret and I went to the Promenade and saw Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.
