Saturday April 30, 1988

Gary came over to my house. We worked on our geography presentation, played some road hockey and went to Burger King for lunch. That night we went over to Dolik and Manya's place for dinner. I watched New Jersey beat Washington.

Friday April 29, 1988

Cosom hockey playoffs started. We beat the Flames in 5-3, earned a spot in the final and I got a hat-trick. The Bruins lost, so we play the Caps for the championship. Organized my hockey card collection. Played outside with Pepper.

Thursday April 28, 1988

We cooked lunch in our Family Studies class. There was a small brawl after school. I ended up fighting Poster. I remember being surprised that Jon was actually tough. We had an old school hockey fight where we just lined up and took turns punching each other. I cried when it was all over, but I SWEAR it was just because I always get emotional after a fight. It wasn't because I was hurt, but I'm sure people there probably wouldn't describe it that way. Poster, if you read this, good fight. Went over to Brian's with Cliff after.

Wednesday April 27, 1988

Mr. Lewinsky left and we got a new teacher. Presentations in geography class commenced. Took the bus home with Gary Don. St. Louis got knocked out of the playoffs.

Tuesday April 26, 1988

Finished writing our geography project. Played road hockey with Cliff, Ulrich and Evan. Montreal got eliminated from the playoffs! Granddad was released from the hospital.

Monday April 25, 1988

Speling Test. Just kidding. Spelling Test. Played foot hockey at lunch. Played road hockey after school with Cliff, Tesis, Evan, Bri, Ron and Yves. Edmonton swept Calgary 4-0.

Sunday April 24, 1988

I watched Boston beat Montreal 2-0. I went to watch Gabe compete in a swim meet. Did homework. Steven and I watched Revenge of the Nerds 2 at Marc's place. Not exactly an Oscar contender.

Saturday April 23, 1988

I went over to Gary's to work on geography (I guess we made up). Then Gary, Cliff, Brett, Brian & I went bowling at Newtonbrook Bowlerama. Then all of us (except Brett) went over to Cliff's and played road hockey with Evan, Tesis and his buddy. Oilers beat Calgary 4-2.

Friday April 22, 1988

Gabe drove me to and from school. I got into an argument with Gary. I went back to the Oilers and we beat the Stars 10-1. I had another 4 points and won the league assist title (Ron Fleming won the overall scoring title). After school I went to National Gym and bought Power soccer shoes. Played outside in the neighborhood with Marc, Steve, Ari, Pepper, etc. Boston took a 2-1 series lead by beating Montreal 3-1.

Thursday April 21, 1988

I didn't go to school. Gabe and I played ping-pong. Did geography work. Watched Cheers, Cosby Show and Night Court. The caught some of the Battle of Alberta.

Wednesday April 20, 1988

Science book due. Handed in my book report for Family Studies class. We won our game in cosom hockey 6-2. I had 4 points. Played road hockey after school with Gary, Poster, Cliff, Yves, Alpern, Evan and Tesis. After dinner I went to the hospital to see my grandfather and then went to my granny's place after. Montreal lost 4-3 and Richer got injured (there goes my pool).

Tuesday April 19, 1988

Jordan's birthday. Star Ball started. Began doing poetry in English class. Took bus home with Gary Don. Finished my book report. Edmonton beat Calgary 3-1 in the Battle of Alberta.

Monday April 18, 1988

A bunch of us played foot hockey at lunch. I got a C on my music test (I think that was actually progress?). I went to the hospital with Gabe to see grandpa and pick mom up. watched hockey - Caps beat NJ and Habs beat Boston.

Sunday April 17, 1988

Cleaned the shrubbery/sticks in the backyard. Had lunch at McDonald's. Gabe and I played chess, checkers and ping-pong. Played road hockey with some people already playing at Rockford. Watched TV.

Saturday April 16, 1988

Evan Newman's Bar-Mitzvah - it was pretty good but the food sucked. Ryan got on a roll with a Jakub routine. Played some road hockey with Gary. We did geography homework and watched the Caps beat Philly 5-4 in OT.

Friday April 15, 1988

PA Day. Played road hockey with Gary, Evan, Cliff, Ron, Poster, Ryan and Andrew Butters. Did some English homework. Watched TV. Played chess and ping-pong with Gabe.

Thursday April 14, 1988

Jump Rope for Heart day. We played foot hockey at lunch. I got a ride home from Milberg. Did English homework. Watched game 7 of the hockey game. Surprise surprise, the Leafs lost 5-3 to the Red Wings. The Islanders, Whalers and Sabres were also eliminated. Did Science homework.

Wednesday April 13, 1988

We lost 6-3 in cosom hockey to the Flames. Who the hell were these Flames? Anyway, I still racked up 1 and 1. I got a haircut after school at Peter's. Chicago, LA and Winnipeg were all eliminated. I watched some special on Murder from Geraldo Rivera.

Tuesday April 12, 1988

Played baseball at lunch. Completed my French SA. I also picked up a detention. Took the bus home with Gary Don. Played ping-pong with Gabe. Watched Montreal lose and Toronto win. Game 7 baby!

Monday April 11, 1988

Went to Harvey's for lunch with Ron. The Toronto Blue Jays won their home opener 17-9! Played road hockey after school with Cliff, Ron, Gary, Brett, Yves, Brian, and Evan. That night was the 60th Academy Awards.

Sunday April 10, 1988

Picked up the leaves in the backyard (my mom wouldn't just let me chill, would she?). Played chess with Gabe, then we went to the library. We stopped at Dairy Queen for Blizzards on the way home. I watched the Leafs lose 8-0 to Detroit and go down 3-1 in the series. Montreal also lost (to Hartford 7-5), but Richer and Gilmour got me 4 points each!

Saturday April 9, 1988

I went for a bike ride with Jordi and Mark Yazer. Passover ended that night, but we actually went to McDonald's for lunch in the afternoon. Played some pick-up hockey with the guys on my street. Cleaned Pepper's shit from the backyard. Watched the Leafs lose 6-3 to Detroit.

Friday April 8, 1988

We tied the Capitals 5-5 in a very intense cosom hockey game. I scored a goal and had an assist. We had Kentucky Fried Chicken for dinner. That's back when they were allowed to claim they sell chicken instead of just 'C'. Played ball hockey with Gabe and Pepper. basically it was a game of keepaway from Pepper, which actually was a big contributor to my superior stick-handling skills. Yes, I'm serious. :P Watched TV and did Geography homework.

Thursday April 7, 1988

Played foot hockey at lunch. Then I played road hockey with Gabe and Pepper after school. Then I watched the Leafs lose 6-2 to Detroit and Montreal beat Hartford 7-3. Grandpa got sick.

Wednesday April 6, 1988

Cosom hockey game - we won 4-3. I got an assist. Gary came over and joined our team (The Bruins). The real NHL playoffs started. I watched Leafs v. Detroit. Glen Anderson had a 5 point night in the Oiler game.

Tuesday April 5, 1988

Back to school. French test. I got my geography test back (86%). Gary beat me by 9 points to take the regular season hockey pool. Drafted our playoff pool. I got: Glen Anderson, Richer, McPhee, Stevens, Walter, Gilmour, Chelios, and Gartner. Started cooking in Family Studies class - we made cookies. That night watched Growing Pains and Who's The Boss.

Monday April 4, 1988

Easter Monday - no school. Ryan and I went to Sports Connection and National Gym. Studied French. NCAA Finals: Kansas beat Oklahoma 83-79 behind a great performance by Danny Manning. Went shopping at the new Miracle Food Mart with mom. Got sick.

Sunday April 3, 1988

Easter Sunday. End of the regular season of NHL. Vancouver, Quebec, Minnesota, Rangers and Pittsburgh out. Mario Lemieux won the scoring title. I went to Town & Country with Paul Kamin. Rented 2 movies - The Believers and Bill Cosby Himself. Gary and I made up (I guess we had a falling out). Granny came home from NYC.

Saturday April 2, 1988

The first day of Passover. Cleaned my room. Played ping-pong with Gabe and did science homework. Played basketball with Ilan and his sister. Who the heck is Ilan? Went for a walk to the park with Pepper. Watched He Shoots, He Scores a mini-series made in Quebec that was about a hockey team very similar to the Quebec Nordiques. It was amazing because it had both hockey and nudity! Toronto beat Detroit 5-3.

Friday April 1, 1988

Good Friday - no school. Played road hockey with Tesis, Cliff, Al, Ulrich, Gary, Poster, Evan, Ryan, Gasee, Brett and Adrian Newman. I ended up getting into a fight with Adrian ... I lost but held my own (he was at least a few years and 20 pounds bigger). After the game I went to Ryan's place and then we went for dinner at Harvey's at Bishop's Cross. Detroit beat Toronto 7-3. Passover eve. Leah and Izzy came over. I went over to grandparent's place to have dinner with grandpa.

Thursday March 31, 1988

Enriched math class. Wrote an exam in geography. Played baseball at lunch. Beginning of the long weekend. I played road hockey with Gary, Brian, Cliff, Brett, Newman and Poster after school. I went with Gabe to York University - he needed to drop some stuff off. The family watched Cheers, Cosby Show and Night Court.

Wednesday March 30, 1988

Played baseball at lunch. We set up our teams for the cosom hockey tournament ... but before the season started I got traded to the Bruins for Paul Tesis. I think originally I was on the Oilers with Brian, Cliff, Gary, Yves, etc. The Bruins were Ryan Long, Evan, Tesis, etc. We had a pop-quiz in French class. Newman & I were banned from music class ... spent it in the library. Mr. Bloom (my science teacher) gave Gary Don and I a lift to Bathurst and Steeles after school. That night I saw Biloxi Blues with my folks. Great movie! It's the Neil Simon sequel to Brighton Beach Memoirs (and part of the Brighton Beach Trilogy).
