I went with dad to his club to swim and sauna. In the evening I watched the Emmy Awards.

Saturday August 27, 1988

My whole family went for coffee at Nino Daversa and then to Yorkdale Mall to see Clean and Sober. I babysat from 9pm to 1am for the Zemilmans.

Friday August 26, 1988

I went to the library and got math books for school. Gary, Paul, Guy and I went to The Surf Club and met some girls from Willowbrook. We also finally chatted with Erin Santilli and Carolyn, etc. Last song of the night was New Order's Bizarre Love Triangle.

Thursday August 25, 1988

Kamin and I played Nintendo and did some boxing (while listening to the best of OMD). Then we took a bus to Canada's Wonderland. We went on the following rides:

Wednesday August 24, 1988

I went over to Paul's and played Nintendo. Went over to Guy's place. We grabbed lunch from Tony at Pizza Chef. We then rented Three O'Clock High. Played some basketball with Shawn Saltzman. Slept over at Guy's place.

Tuesday August 23, 1988

Stayed home and watched TV all day. Ordered a pizza for dinner. Played Monopoly again.

Monday August 22, 1988

Paul and I went down to the Eaton's Center. Played Monopoly with Marc, Brian and Steve.

Sunday August 21, 1988

Gabriella Sabatini beat Natalia Zvereva 6-1, 6-2 to win The Players Championship in Montreal. I went to see Midnight Run at The Promenade with dad. Great movie! Went over to Marc's to play Monopoly.

Saturday August 20, 1988

Mom, dad and I went to Nino Daversa and then down to St. Clair/Dufferin to buy shoes for school. Paul and I went to Nightmare On Elm Street 4 at Town & Country.

Friday August 19, 1988

Gabe, Gary and I played tennis at German Mills. Went to Surf Club and saw Danny Benquile, Jennifer North, Sandy Fisher and Jennifer B.

Thursday August 18, 1988

Cliff, Ryan and I went to Slugger's and then bowling at Newtonbrook Bowling. After we grabbed lunch at Harvey's. Gabe and I snuck into Mayfair and played a set. He won 6-3.

Wednesday August 17, 1988

Went over to Gary's place and swam - met his cousins who were over there. Got a haircut. Played soccer and lost 4-0. I let in 2 of the goals. Sick of playing goalie! Played Nintendo at Marc's place.

Tuesday August 16, 1988

My 14th birthday. Gary and Cliff came over to our place for lunch and some ping-pong. Then we went to Fun City at Jane and Finch to play mini-golf. Gabe and I went to Mayfair in the evening to play tennis (he won 6-3, 6-1).

Monday August 15, 1988

Northland's second session comes home. Went over to granny's place with mom. Ari, Ilan, Steve and I played doubles tennis at Rockford. Then we went back to Marc's place and played cards.

Sunday August 14, 1988

Watched TV. Ivan Lendl beat Kevin Curran 7-6 6-2 to win The Player's International. I cleaned my room and finished reading Robin Hood.

Saturday August 13, 1988

Watched tennis on TV. Played a set with Gabe. We also battled it out in ping-pong.

Friday August 12, 1988

Vicka's last day. She went back to Moscow. Gabe and I went back to the JCC and played tennis (he won 7-5) and swam. Watched TV. Gary came home.

Thursday August 11, 1988

Mom, granny, Gabe, and I took Vicky to lunch at Nino D'Aversa. Gabe and I went to The Promenade to get a new ping-pong net. Went over to Marc's place to play Nintendo baseball.

(Note: To this day Nino D'Aversa is my favourite place in Toronto for coffee and veal sandwiches. The location we went to all the time has now moved from Yonge & Steeles to Yonge & Clark. Nowadays I still go there, but to the Finch & Keele location).

Wednesday August 10, 1988

Gabe, Vicky and I went to the Ontario Science Center. We checked out the opening of the Sport hall. Gabe bought a new tennis raquet and then we went to the JCC to play tennis and swim.

Tuesday August 9, 1988

I went back to The Players International Tennis Championship. We saw Kevin Curran. Granny and the Zarvinskys came over for dinner in honor of Vicky's anniversary. Wayne Gretzky was traded to Los Angeles.

(Note: a crazy story around the Gretzky trade is that a kid who played tennis at The Valley told me that Gretzky was going to be traded - at least a week before it happened! This kid's mom was somehow connected to Janet Jones and knew the inside story of what was going on. Michael Landsberg was already on TSN and a member of The Valley also. I asked him if he heard that Gretzky was going to be traded and he basically berated me for believing that was even a possibility. Well he eventually came and apologized and from that day forward Landsberg would always remember me. Years later when he started Off The Record I contacted him about an internship and used the "Gretzky card". I got the gig.)

Monday August 8, 1988

Gabe, Cherry and I went to the Player's International Tennis Championship at York University. I got a bunch of free stuff. Ran into Shelly P and Bresgi. Gabe and I went to the JCC and played tennis: he won 7-6, 6-1.

Sunday August 7, 1988

Mom made breakfast for Guy and I, then he took off. I played Nintendo Baseball at Marc's place. Grandma came over.

Saturday August 6, 1988

Rented Eddie Murphy's Raw. I bought new sunglasses at Le Chateau. Guy and I went back to The Surf Club, had late night Mr. Sub and then had a sleepover at my place.

Friday August 5, 1988

Guy, Brad and I went swimming at Jordi's place. We all went to grab a slice from Tony at Pizza Chef for lunch. A new all ages club called Surf Club opened up Bathurst and Steeles. We went and stayed until 11:30pm.

Note: Pizza Chef was located at a little strip mall at John and Aileen. It was next to Mac's Milk and over the years we spent a surprisingly large amount of time in that parking lot.

Note 2: I remember that night at Surf Club quite well. That was the first time I saw Erin Santilli and her friends. She was outrageously good looking and I although I don't think we ended up chatting with her clique that night, our paths would overlap years later. New Order's "Bizarre Love Triangle" was the last song of the night.

Thursday August 4, 1988

Gabe, Guy, Jordi and I went go-karting at Family Kartways in Whitby, then went back to swim @ Jordi's. Guy dubbed me some rap tapes. Granny came over for dinner. Rented Hope and Glory.

Wednesday August 3, 1988

Went to Guy's house. We went on a bike ride and then to his grandfather's condo to swim. Gabe and I went to see George Carlin at The O'keefe Centre.

Tuesday August 2, 1988

I went to Bloor Cycle with Guy, Brad and Jordi. Watched TV. Guy and I went to Town & Country and saw Cocktail, then went to Mr. Donut.

Monday August 1, 1988

Pepper's 5th Birthday. Watched TV. Rented Ferris Bueller's Day Off.
